No more tired eyes – all treatments at a glance

Especially in the eye region, age-related changes can be detected at an early stage. The eyelid skin is very fine, so it is often more easily affected by the natural loss of firmness and elasticity. Possible consequences are small wrinkles in the eye area as well as so-called drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes. Depending on the findings, various methods can be treatment used to rejuvenate the eye area and make it shine again. Above all, surgical eyelid correction helps to permanently remove disturbing tissue sagging and to reduce the tired, tired and older expression in the area of the eyes. How this works and what other treatment options there are, you can read in this article. What are drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes?

Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes refer to changes in the eye area that occur when the fine eyelid skin loses firmness and sags.

Drooping eyelids refer to the upper eyelids. If the body’s own amount of structural proteins such as collagen slowly decreases, connective tissue and skin lose strength – including on the eyelids. As a result, the tissue lowers above the upper eyelid and covers it. In some cases, drooping eyelids can even be so pronounced that they disturb the field of vision.

Bags under the eyes appear on the lower eyelids. They have nothing directly to do with the tear duct, but mean sagging tissue below the eye. Due to the lack of firmness, the tissue bulges under the eye, making it look swollen and tired. Dark discolorations are also possible, as the eyelid skin is sensitive and thin, which is why underlying structures can shimmer through. What can be achieved with eyelid correction?

Surgical eyelid surgery can be divided into upper eyelid tightening and lower eyelid lifting. In the upper eyelid lift, the sagging tissue above the eye is precisely removed and the area is harmoniously tightened. This makes the eye area appear more open, younger and friendlier. Possible functional limitations (e.g. of the field of vision or frequent inflammation of the eye) can also be reduced in this way. In lower eyelid lifting, the tissue below the eye is tightened in a similar process. It is also possible to reduce or reposition the fatty tissue under the eye so that the eye area looks young and radiant and the swelling disappears.

Experience has shown that the results of eyelid surgery are very good. The procedure takes about one to two hours and takes place on an outpatient basis. The results obtained are permanent because the tissue cannot regenerate. However, it is possible that the tissue sags again in the course of natural skin aging. However, this process takes some time, so the results of eyelid correction usually last a few years – on average about eight to ten years. Botox® and hyaluronic acid for the eye area

Depending on the indications, non-surgical methods can also help to achieve a younger and fresher eye area. These include, for example, the classics of minimally invasive procedures: botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid. In particular, small wrinkles on the side of the eyes can often be treated very well by injection therapies. In addition, Botox® can be used to lift the eyebrows slightly, which in turn affects the appearance of the eye area. A tired and grumpy expression can also be the result of low-hanging or sagging eyebrows.

The injections with Botox® and hyaluronic acid can also be combined with eyelid correction to achieve an optimal overall result. Whether this makes sense and is advisable in individual cases, our specialists will examine in a personal consultation and will be happy to explain to you. Other minimally invasive methods

The limits of minimally invasive treatments

Minimally invasive treatments such as injections with Botox® and hyaluronic acid represent a lower-risk and gentler alternative to surgery. Therefore, they are enjoying growing popularity, as very good and effective results can be achieved without cuts and scars. Despite the versatility of applications, however, it must be taken into account that they are not an unrestricted alternative to classic surgeries such as eyelid tightening. In most cases, a sagging excess skin such as drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes can only be effectively corrected by surgical measures. The minimally invasive methods reach their limits here. Therefore, it is important that each treatment is planned and explained in advance by an experienced specialist. The expert knows exactly which method can achieve the best results for which disruptive factors. More about eyelid correction in the inner city skin centre
