As part of the conservative dental treatment, the existing teeth are rehabilitated – e.g. by fillings (“seals”), root canal treatments or tartar removal.
Surgical dental treatment includes, for example, extractions, surgical removal of teeth and root tip resections.
Contractual services
Contractual services can be used by contractual partners. It is sufficient to present the e-card. The ÖGK assumes the collectively agreed costs for contractual services in full. You have to pay for special requests yourself.
The most important contractual services include:
- Amalgam fillings in the posterior region
- Plastic fillings in the anterior region and in the canine region
- amalgamous fills for specific groups of people (see below for more information)
- Root canal treatments
- Tartar removal by the dentist
- surgical interventions
- Removal of teeth and tooth roots
- Oral hygiene is usually not a contractual service for adults! Children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18 can take advantage of oral hygiene once per year of treatment. If fixed orthodontic treatment is ongoing, twice per year of treatment, with treatments at least six months apart. Here you can find more information about oral hygiene.
- Spritzen for anaesthesia are included in all surgical procedures. In the case of restorative therapy, they are usually not included in the services offered by the ÖGK (exception: e.g. for children at the decision of the dentist).
Costs with a dentist of choice
- If you use a dentist of choice, you must first pay the treatment fee note yourself. If services are provided as part of the treatment that are part of the contractual services, you can submit the fee note for reimbursement.
They receive 80 percent of the tariff costs back from the ÖGK. - Please note: Elective dentists can set their fees freely. The prices can differ greatly from the tariff costs. You will be reimbursed by the ÖGK 80 percent of the tariff costs and not 80 percent of the fee.
- You can use the Submit Invoice service to submit the fee note.
Fillings
The ÖGK pays for dental fillings made of amalgam in the posterior region. White plastic fillings are paid only for the front teeth. For posterior teeth, you have to pay privately for fillings made of plastic (white fillings) – even at a contract dentist.
As a rule, you can submit the fee note for plastic fillings in the posterior region to the ÖGK. As a rule, they receive a subsidy of 80 percent of the tariff costs for a filling made of amalgam.
Please note: The costs for plastic fillings in the posterior region are freely determined by your dentist. These can be significantly higher than reimbursement. Therefore, please ask for the costs before the treatment.
Exceptions to the assumption of costs
In the following cases, you will receive an amalgam-free filling from a panel dentist without additional payment on e-card. In the case of a dentist of choice, you initially pay the fee note yourself and receive 80 percent of the tariff costs back. Here you can send us the fee note with the service Submit invoice.
- Children and adolescents up to the age of 15 receive amalgam-free fillings.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding a child. The breastfeeding period is generally assumed to be given until the child has reached the age of one. Please take your mother-child passport with you as confirmation.
- If amalgam is out of the question for medical reasons (e.g. because of an allergy to ingredients of amalgam), you need a medical confirmation of your allergy or illness recognized by the ÖGK (allergy passport) or a permit from the dental service of the ÖGK.
If neither amalgam nor dental fillings made of plastic are an option for health reasons, there are alternative fillings made of metal or ceramic, so-called inlays or onlays. The ÖGK grants a subsidy for this if the necessary conditions are met. Before starting treatment, ask your dentist or a dental health centre of the ÖGK.
