Useful information about NBC protective masks »
What should be taken into account when using gas masks?
When using a gas mask for the first time – these are also called ABC masks – it should be adapted to the head size and shape of the wearer. Many gas masks have a universal size, which can be changed at will. All you have to do is pull the straps of the gas mask shut. The gas mask must be tight: If there is a crack in air between the mask and the skin, gas can penetrate through it and cause serious damage. Before using the gas mask, it should be cleaned. Dirt can irritate the skin and lead to poor vision. Other special features are not to be considered when using gas masks. Which model is right for me?
Before buying, the area of application should be defined. Gas masks with and without filters can be purchased in the ASMC range. The filter is responsible for filtering harmful substances out of the contaminated air. The weight of the gas mask should be extremely low, so that it can be used easily even with prolonged use. When choosing the right gas mask, attention should be paid to a large viewing window. This allows maximum freedom of movement and a clear view of the surroundings. ASMC’s gas masks all come from renowned brand manufacturers who are known for the high quality of their products. Therefore, it can be trusted that the gas masks will function optimally in an emergency. Some gas masks from the ASMC range are intended for decorative purposes only. This should be taken into account when browsing the assortment. Expert tip: Train with a mask, e.g. for mountain tours in higher climes
If you want to tackle a mountain tour in the near future, which has massive differences in altitude and / or exceeds a certain critical height, you should prepare yourself seriously for this. One option is to use a gas mask, e.g. when exercising on the treadmill – or, depending on where you live, while jogging. This makes it possible to simulate the air that becomes thinner at a certain altitude and the body can prepare for it, so to speak. This increases above all the breathing resistance, which makes breathing more difficult. However, the carbon dioxide content also increases, simulating the lack of fresh oxygen, so to speak. Of course, you should consider both, so this training method, as well as such a mountain tour itself, very well and possibly even better consult a doctor before starting. Questions: Gas masksIn which situations can gas masks be useful?
For example, when using chemical warfare agents, tear gas or even larger occurrences of dust of any size and form to prevent any permanent damage to the respiratory tract, nose or eyes. Which variants are there?
Normal gas masks – or what the normal user understands by such – are also called full masks. These are available in several forms, including respirators with connected drinking tubes, so that you can even supply yourself with fluid without missing the protective function. Then there are the so-called particle-filtering half masks (fine dust masks) and quarter masks. Most of today’s masks are made of rubber or silicone and, as the name suggests, primarily for respiratory protection. The special models, which mainly filter particles, are classified as dust masks and used, for example, in painting or wood sawing work. Typical applications
In addition to tactical operations in the military and private sector, the cleaning of tanks should also be mentioned here. Of course, the main purpose, the use in the rescue services (fire brigade, THW) must not be ignored. In the fire brigade, so-called normal pressure masks are usually used. What do the various type designations mean?
There are classes FFP-1 to 3, with level 3 being the highest level or can filter out most substances (99%), whether liquid or gaseous. In most cases, these also include viruses, bacteria, fungi and Sporen.Es there are various additional names, which are usually listed in the title. These break down as follows:
S (solid): For aqueous aerosols and particles
SL: Aqueous and oily aerosols and particles
V: With exhalation valve to reduce breathing resistanceWhat is the best way to store gas masks when not in use?
There are extra bags that are made for this purpose. So that nothing can break or scratch during storage, this option should be used in any case. What needs to be considered with the gas mask filters?
So that the complete mask does not always have to be replaced after use, there are usually so-called filters or cartridges to buy. By the way, gas mask filters have only a limited shelf life, up to which the manufacturer guarantees proper functioning. Normally, the date is printed on the filters. Many work with activated carbon, which saturates itself over time, so to speak, even when not in use. If you only want to use a mask as a party gag or for show purposes, you can easily remove the exhalation valve. As a result, the air is no longer passed through a filter but sucked in directly from there. The only drawback: Unfortunately, the viewing window of the mask usually fogs up relatively quickly from the inside.
